John Ord Fiction
Heroic epic fantasy and speculative fictionAll great stories begin with a question. I write stories about adventure and curiosity, friendship and conflict, unfamiliar worlds and the people changed by exploring them. My main project is Aadanna: an original fantasy world built to support a growing collection of interconnected stories about heroes, villains and ordinary people caught somewhere between the two.
Aadanna emerges
Aadanna is a world of sword and sorcery, monsters and magic, fantasy and friendship.
The first stories are set during the Kingsfall Crisis, a period when established systems of power and authority begin to fracture across the continent of Eshurast. A king is dead. Agents of Chaos work in secret. Wars begin, old certainties fail, and people scattered across the world are drawn into events much larger than themselves.
Some seek adventure. Some would rather be left alone. The world has other plans.
Help make the stories better
Writing begins alone, but it shouldn’t finish that way. As stories approach completion, I share them with test readers: people who read them as readers rather than editors and tell me about the experience they had. If you enjoy fantasy or speculative fiction and would be interested in occasionally reading work before publication, I’d like to hear from you.
You don’t need any writing, publishing or editing experience. In fact, what I most want to know is much simpler: Did you like it? Why?
About John
I’ve been writing stories in one form or another since I was eight, when a short story about a crew of seasick pirates unexpectedly won a short story competition, and I was hooked.
Fantasy soon became the centre of my interest. Tolkien, David Gemmell, Raymond E. Feist, David and Leigh Eddings and Terry Pratchett were among the writers who showed me just how many different things a speculative world could do. Now I write my own fiction, and build my own worlds, and it still feels like this is only the beginning…
